League Committees At Work

The League has recently restructured its working committees, who have already begun developing work plans for the coming year. This is a great way to get involved and play an active role in your Municipal League. To participate, contact the League office at (206) 622-8333, or e-mail muni@munileague.org  for meeting times and locations.

Communications: Do you like to write? Have an eye for detail? You can help publish the Muni News, lend a hand with the League’s website or help publicize the League’s work in the community. Chair: Lonnie Lusardo

Seattle Operations & Issues: Keep an eye on Seattle government and help hold it accountable to the community. Chair: Lucy Steers

King County Operations & Issues: The watchdog of Metro King County. Join this committee and keep county government answerable to the people. Chair: Deb Dollard

Bellevue/Suburban Cities Operations & Issues: What is going on in cities and towns around the county? What issues are important to them? What’s their relationship with county government? Joining this committee is a great way to find out more about often ignored issues effecting cities just outside of Seattle. Chair: Dave Russell

Resource Development: Help the League grow by recruiting new members and working with a great team to make certain the League has the funding it needs to succeed. Chair: George Scott

Taking the Pulse: What’s working in local government? What isn’t? Who cares? Taking the Pulse is the League’s major project for 2001. Represent the League and go out to meet with community groups; lead discussion to find answers to these questions. Chair: Gary McLean

Regional & Ballot Issues: I-745, I-722, charter schools, raising taxes for transit and the Seattle Monorail were among the initiatives studied by the committee this election cycle. Meet with the sponsors and opponents of ballot measures, research the issues and help develop the League’s public position on ballot initiatives. Chair: Jocelyn Marchisio

Candidate Evaluation Steering Committee: This committee is evaluating the rating process and formulating recommendations for improvements. Chair: Putnam Barber

Civic Awards: This committee plans the annual awards luncheon, next scheduled for June 8, 2001. Committee begins meeting in January. Chair: Ruth Schroeder
