LEAGUE ACTIVISM RETURNS
League Chairman, Tom Albro, updates Members
on League activities
Dear Fellow Members,
August is an especially busy time here. Our Candidate Evaluation Committees
have been in full swing doing the important work of rating all of the
legislative candidates in King County. I am proud to say that each of the three
committees did an excellent job; we are fortunate to have so many dedicated and
effective volunteers.
We were also busy doing the work necessary for the Board of Trustees to
evaluate and take positions on many of the ballot issues that will be voted on
this fall. Our Ballot Issues Committee started its work in June. The Committee’s
analysis and recommendations were submitted to the Board and the Board took
positions on the initiatives at a special meeting on August 21. A brief
statement of positions is enclosed but you are encouraged to check our website www.munileague.org
for greater detail that includes the Committee’s summary reports. The
Committee also recommended that the League study the use of ballot issues in the
state with a goal of making recommendations for improving the process.
Finally, we will be re-establishing three member-based Standing Committees
and are looking for volunteers to serve on them. Each will focus on local
governance. One will concentrate on the City of Seattle, another will be looking
at King County, and the third will work on Bellevue/Suburban Cities. This is a
major step in the re-emergence of the League. Join in and become a part of it.
Stay tuned, more to come …Tom
