My wife and I have moved in and out of the Puget Sound area over the last 16 years, but we always come back here. This is an excellent place to live, work and raise children. Sure there are some issues, but overall we are heading in the right direction and I want to help keep us on track. So when my daughters decide where they want to live and work, they will choose Puget Sound! |
2. Describe your most important personal characteristics or traits as they relate to the office you seek.

My ability to think critically about an issue and make a decision is probably the most important trait that I possess that will hold me in good stead for this position. In addition, my ability to understand issues, learn new things and work diligently until something is completed will also help me during my time on the Redmond City Council. |

I am the most proud of my being recognized as the recipeient of the Outstanding Service Award by the Washington State PTA in 2006. I was the first non-sitting board member to be so recognized for my work in the community for all of the children in the State of Washington.
Secondly, I am proud of my work in my start up company in Southern California. The ability to perservere in a difficult situation and make it turn out right was very important to me and rewarding. I literally lost everything, house, cars, savings and was on the brink of bankruptcy, but was able to push forward and turn the business into a viable entity.
Third, my recognition as a Top 5% in the Nation of all Navy Recruiters during my tenure as a Naval Recruiting Supervisor was a testament to my ability to work hard and help others. |

I have been involved in the community in numerous ways, as a leader in the WA State PTA - 2004-2005-2006- , a Program Advisor for the Bellevue Family YMCA Youth in Government Program - 2004-2005-2006 - (where I was honored as the Family Program Volunteer of the Year for 2005), donating my time, expertise and computer equipment for the Youth Program at the YMCA (a total of 8 computers over a one year period), coach of my daughters basketball team - 2004-2005..
My work as community and legislative activist with the PTA helped me to understand how our government works in the State of Washington as well as the importance of having your voice heard by our elected officials. This experience will be beneficial to me as I work for the City of Redmond in all matters.
In addition, I worked with 2 political campaigns, Rep. Ross Hunter and Sen. Rodney Tom in '04 & '06 respectively.

You work for the people and represent them in a variety of roles. Most importantly, you prioritze and budget the revenues for the city. This can be very complex and you need to be able to balance the needs of the city (Public Safety, Infrastructure, etc) with the need for Quality of Life (Parks, Arts) while at the same time ensuring all of the citizens are represented. |
