Candidate Evaluations 2005

The Municipal League has been rating candidates for public office since 1911
based on four criteria: Involvement, Effectiveness, Character and Knowledge. The League ratings are widely respected and
provide the only independent non-partisan, non-agenda driven evaluation
of candidates.
This year our citizens committees will evaluate candidates for selected
local races in King County. Candidate interviews and ratings
will completed during August and released in early September in time to help
voters decide in the primary elections.
Candidate Evaluation Committee Expectations
Time Commitment
July 19th and
20th from 6pm – 9pm each
night. Individuals who cannot attend all the training sessions can view them
on video tape.
Candidate Evaluation Committee meetings:
July 25th – August 11th
Committees meet Monday through Thursday usually from
5:45pm to 9:30pm.
Evaluators are expected to attend at least 50% of candidate interviews.
Candidate Investigation: In addition to the evening meetings, each
evaluator investigates 2-3 candidates; checks references, collects campaign
donor and other background information and presents it to the committee.
Final Review : Each committee will schedule its own final review
between August 15th and August 19th. At these meetings the committees finalize
their recommendations to the board. Last year the final review meetings lasted
from two to five hours, depending on the number of candidates evaluated.
Board Final Review: August 22nd and 23rd. Each committee will have
approximately 90 minutes to present their recommendations for final approval
by the board of trustees.
Evaluators commit to:
-
Examine candidates fairly and
without prejudice.
-
Refrain from actively supporting
any candidate rated by the Municipal League during the 2005 election cycle.
-
Refrain from endorsing, making
monetary contributions or attending campaign events of any candidate the
League will rate during 2005.
-
Maintain complete confidentiality
of all committee matters during and after the ratings process.
