A judge has many duties: to uphold the Federal and State Constitutions, to apply and interpret the law as intended the by Legislature within those constitutional parameters, to balance the protection of society and victims with the rights of the accused within the criminal system, to balance the claims of competing parties with the general civil system and to balance the rights of the parent with the best interests of the child in the domestic system.
It is a judge's paramount duty in this balancing act to ensure that the law is applied fairly and impartially. To this end, a judge must be a vigilant moderator between the parties, ensuring each side is given a full and fair opportunity to mount and present a case.
A judge also has an obligation to work to improve the legal system and the administration of justice, as well as to be knowledgeable about and conversant with the entire community they serve. |

If you exceed the length of response permitted, or if the League should find it necessary to shorten responses for publication purposes, deletions will be made beginning with the last item listed.
Note: This information will appear verbatim on the League’s Candidate Evaluation Report. If this question is left blank, the Municipal League will not include information on your civic involvement in the Report.
Check here if you would like the Municipal League to copy the first 500 characters from Question 4 to paste into this section.
